Is Your Home Protected From an Earthquake?

4/25/2011 12:05:00 AM
Does your Ohio home insurance or Indiana home insurance policy protect your home from an earthquake?  Earthquakes are a hot topic in the headlines with the tragedy in Japan. It's a common misconception that Ohio and Indiana are not at risk for an earthquake. The New Madrid Seismic Zone is a major seismic zone in the midwestern United States potentially threatening parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. There have been more than 4000 earthquakes reported in this zone since 1974.  Do you have protection from an earthquake on your homeowner policy?  There are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Earthquake Coverage can be added to a majority of homeowner policies, but in many cases is not automatically included.

2. A typical Earthquake deductible is 5% of the total loss.

Be sure to contact us as your agent to see if you have Earthquake Coverage, or to add it to your current homeowner policy.  We specialize in protecting our clients homes in Ohio and Indiana.
